Highland Estates story

Started in 1930s when the founder member of the company Mr. Abdulrahim Mulla introduced subsistence rice irrigation farming at Usangu, Southern Highland region.

The current development of rice irrigation farming in the Madibira, Kapunga and Mbarali rice farms followed the pattern established by the company’s founder. The core investiments by that time being Sisal and Paddy farming with proportionate investment in subsidiary industries like Livestock, Fish Farming and Poultry.

Later, the family business developed into a Sole proprietorship under Mr Pirmohamed Mulla in 1960s, when he started trading in retail and wholesale business, as an agent and a distributor in the southern regions for industrial products.

Our business grew in the 1970s, into transport business dealing with liquid and dry cargo across East and Central Africa, and in 1990s the company entered into construction business in the name of Southern Highland Estates Limited.

Later, the company changed its name to Highland Estates Limited on 1st July 1997 under the same certificate of registration.

Currently, the company is a Class One Civil and Building contractor; Major Player in agricultural activities (i.e. Farming and Animal Husbandry), a Real Estate’s Agent and Developer, and lately does trading and distribution of fertilizer and petroleum products in various regions in Tanzania.
